Robert Soroka was crowned the 2022 Motomaster Ron Fellows Karting Championship Vice-Champion after the season ended in Hamilton. Soroka competed in the ROK Senior division with Ken Glover Racing in a RedSpeed Kart.
The first weekend of races was May 14th to 15th at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario. Soroka started the weekend strong by putting himself on pole, but contact with a rival on the first lap pushed him back to 8th place. However, Soroka showed his ability to fight adversity by climbing through the field after the setback claiming 1st overall by the end of the race. The second-weekend race saw Soroka again start from the front and lead for the first five laps before a mechanical issue led to him having to retire his kart.
Stop two on the MRKFC schedule was Innisfil, Ontario, from June 4th to 5th. Saturday’s race saw Soroka retire for the second time in a row after contact with another driver. In Sunday’s race, Soroka once again fought through contact with a rival to claim his second victory in four races. Soroka won the race with a last-lap pass for which he received the “Smooth Move Award” by Ron Fellows.
The season’s final weekend was from July 9th to 10th in Hamilton, Ontario. After leading for 20 of 30 laps, Soroka finished the first race P2 after again being driven over by a rival kart. In Sunday’s race, Soroka lost a few positions at the start due to some hard battles, resulting in him being third. Soroka tried to catch up to the leaders but didn’t have enough laps left to contend for the win, ultimately settling for a third-place podium finish.
At the end of the six-race season, Soroka was crowned Vice-Champion for the second year. It was a great series of races for Soroka and the Ken Glover Racing team, who showed they were competitive and fighting for wins at all three stops on the schedule.
