Robert Soroka competed with five other drivers in the Team Canada Scholarship Shootout for a chance to represent Canada at the Formula Ford Festival and Walter Hayes Trophy Race in Great Britain. The drivers were judged by a panel of Indycar stars James Hinchcliffe and Robert Wickens, other IMSA drivers, and Team Canada founder Brian Graham. The event was held at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park development track. The drivers were racing in Skip Barber Formula Cars, which Soroka said he had a lot of fun driving.
Although the skip barber formula cars were old, they were a blast to drive and really tested our skills with a sequential transmission and clutch. Fortunately, my shifter experience came in handy, and I was able to master the car in 2 of the 4 sessions available that day.
Soroka was competitive throughout the weekend, showing he was one of the fastest drivers out on the track. Although Soroka was not awarded the scholarship at the end of the event, it was still a positive experience to test himself against other top drivers his age and meet some of the most significant Canadian drivers.
