Soroka returned to car racing after a three-year hiatus to compete in the Emzone Radical Cup Finale at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park on September 2nd, 3rd and 4th with RySpec Racing. Soroka got in two test days with RySpec in the Radical SR3 XX to get up to speed on the car. Soroka found it easy to get up to speed as he had done a lot of simulator testing before the event to sharpen his skills.
Coming into the weekend, Soroka was expecting good results but did not imagine he would end up fighting for podiums in all of his races. The weekend got off on the right foot immediately with P4 finish in qualifying. The weekend’s first race was a new experience for Soroka, especially the rolling start, which he still had not done. After a great start and move on the outside of turn one, Soroka moved up to third. For the next 35 minutes of the race, Soroka attempted to put pressure on the cars in front, but it wasn’t enough to move up, and he ended his first Radical Cup race in third.
The weekend’s second race saw Soroka fall back to fourth after struggling to find a groove in his first few laps. However, after settling into the race, he was able to grab back his podium position in third and push to get within a second of the car ahead before the race came to a close.
In the third race, Soroka fell to P8 after rain made the track challenging to navigate. A race reset allowed Soroka to carve his way through the field into third place before another full course yellow allowed him to pressure the P2 car before he shot around the outside of turn eight and came home in second position, his best result for the weekend.
After a three-year hiatus in car racing, Soroka showed just how fast and adaptable he is in any car, with three podiums in three races. Soroka will now look to build on this experience as he will compete in the 2023 Radical Cup season with RySpec Racing.
